West facing bays and hilltops where the sun drops behind Bali’s Mount Agung or straight into the open ocean.
Lombok’s west coast looks straight across the strait to Bali, so on a clear evening the sun sets behind the outline of Mount Agung. On the south coast the view opens onto the ocean instead, with west facing bays like Selong Belanak and hilltops like Bukit Merese above Tanjung Aan catching the last of the light.

The sun goes down between about 6 and 6:30pm all year round. Get there 30 minutes early for a good spot, and if you’re riding back by scooter, take it slow, because many of the coast roads are unlit.
