Pepper Sand Bays
Coarse, peppercorn sized grains on the east side of Tanjung Aan and dark sand at Kerandangan near Senggigi, nothing like the soft white powder elsewhere.
Not all of Lombok’s beaches are soft white powder. On the east side of Tanjung Aan, the grains are so coarse and rounded, about the size of peppercorns, that you literally sink into the sand as you walk. Cross to the west side of the same bay and it’s soft and fine again. Up on the west coast, Kerandangan, just around the corner from Senggigi, has some of the darkest sand on the island.
Coarse sand brushes off easily, but it’s a little rough on bare feet, and dark sand heats up fast in the midday sun, so sandals help on both.
