A quiet bay, still find its feet
Serangan sits within the wider Selong Belanak bay, about 45 minutes from Kuta, a long stretch of clean white sand backed by shady trees, green hills, and a scattering of small islands offshore. It's known first among surfers for its reef break, but it's also a genuinely pleasant, quiet beach in its own right, small to moderate waves, very few vendors, and a noticeably relaxed pace compared to the more built-up beaches closer to town.
A newer restaurant and bar has opened on the beach in recent times, giving it a bit more infrastructure than it used to have while still keeping the crowd genuinely thin most days.

Conditions on the ground
The main break here is a long, fast right-hand reef wave with a steep takeoff, regularly rated one of the better surf spots in South Lombok, consistent in how it breaks and peels, though genuinely sensitive to wind. Low to mid tide gives the cleanest conditions, and a strong current builds on the mid-high tide that will leave you paddling constantly, so timing matters here more than at most beginner-friendly spots. For non-surfers, the water is generally calm enough for a relaxed swim closer to shore.

Access & parking
About 45 minutes from Kuta by scooter or car, with a small parking fee, typically around 10,000 IDR. From the car park, it's a walk across the reef to reach the main break, not always obvious on a first visit, so it's worth asking at a local warung or hiring a local surf guide if you're unfamiliar with the spot. Mobile data coverage is generally decent on the beach, though don't expect fast wifi at the warungs.

Facilities
A newly built restaurant, "Nine Dining Resto and Bar" now sits on the beach, alongside Segara Restaurant and Bar. Facilities remain fairly minimal beyond that, most visitors treat this as a day trip rather than somewhere to base themselves, since there's no accommodation directly on Serangan itself.

GOOD TO KNOW
No lifeguard on duty. The reef break gets a strong current on mid to high tide, surf at low to mid tide for the safest, cleanest conditions, and consider a local guide on your first visit.

When to visit
Early morning, before the trade winds pick up, gives the cleanest surf conditions and the calmest overall feel. Low wind days are worth prioritizing if you're here for the wave specifically, since it's a genuinely wind-sensitive break.
