A peninsula best explored by boat​
The Southwest Peninsula is Sekotong, a stretch of coastline still largely untouched by mass tourism, and the scattering of Secret Gilis just offshore. Tawun Harbour is the launch point for the islands, boats hopping between them in minutes once you're out on the water, while the mainland itself winds down to Bangko-Bangko at the very tip, home to Desert Point, one of the world's genuinely great surf breaks.
It's a region defined by boats rather than roads. Gili Nanggu draws the crowds for its snorkeling, Gili Kedis is the tiny sandbar everyone photographs, and Gili Sudak has become the go-to lunch stop for visitors island-hopping between the two. Gili Asahan has quietly become the group's wellness retreat, boutique eco lodges built around yoga, spa treatments, and horse walks alongside the snorkeling and healthy coral. Gili Gede is the largest and most developed of the group, with real villages and a growing set of places to stay, while Gili Layar, Gili Rengit, and Gili Goleng sit further out and stay genuinely quiet, better known for house reefs and healthy coral than any infrastructure.
