From beginner-friendly sand-bottom breaks to some of Indonesia's most consistent reef waves, for every level willing to make the drive.
South Lombok in particular has built a real reputation among surfers, and the coastline backs it up. Selong Belanak's sandy bottom makes it the easiest place on the island to learn, while spots like Mawi and Are Guling hold sharp reef and genuinely powerful waves suited only to intermediate and advanced surfers. Gerupuk splits the difference, five separate breaks across one bay, reachable by boat, with something for most ability levels on any given day.
At the far end of the spectrum sits Desert Point, one of the best left-hand barrels in the world and strictly for experts, and Ekas Bay, a longer trip southeast that rewards the extra effort with two highly rated waves and some of the lightest crowds on the whole coast. Conditions vary significantly by spot and season, always worth checking swell and tide before heading out, and going with a local guide on any break you haven't surfed before.
