Gerupuk sits about 15-20 minutes east of Kuta, a large bay built around a genuine, still-functioning fishing village rather than a beach resort strip. The bay itself holds five distinct surf breaks across a range of levels, all reached by short boat rides from the village, making it one of the most social and consistent surf setups anywhere on this coast.
Because the bay is naturally sheltered, Gerupuk holds a wave even when more exposed spots like Mawi are blown out by wind, making it the natural backup plan for a lot of surfers based in Kuta, and a genuinely solid option in its own right rather than just a fallback.
