Kuta Beach is a wide, open bay right in front of the town that shares its name, the main base for exploring the south coast rather than a destination in its own right. Most visitors spend far more time at Tanjung Aan, Mawun, or Selong Belanak than at Kuta Beach itself, and honestly, that's the right call, the more dramatic bays are all a short scooter ride away.

What Kuta does have is energy: surf schools, warungs, a small biweekly night market, and the kind of small-town buzz that makes it the natural place to sleep, eat, and plan the rest of your trip from.
