What makes it different
Tanjung Aan is a wide double bay split by a small rocky headland, and it's the pepper sand that sets it apart. Run your hand through it and it's coarse, almost gritty, with dark flecks running through the white, a different mineral entirely from the soft powder sand found elsewhere on the south coast.
Most of the old row of local warungs that used to line the sand has been cleared, though a handful of vendors have found their way back with sunbeds and cold drinks. A couple of beach clubs have since taken up a good stretch of the bay instead, so the beach now has a mix of the old, low-key local presence and a more polished setup, without feeling like a resort frontage.
