Two hills, one shared view
Bukit Merese and Bukit Seger sit on opposite sides of Tanjung Aan, both grassy headlands looking out over the same stretch of coast, and both firmly established as the go-to sunset spots for anyone based in Kuta. They're often visited as a pair on the same evening, or chosen between depending on how much time or energy you've got.
Merese is the bigger, more famous of the two, a genuine 360-degree panorama that takes in Tanjung Aan's bay on one side and the open ocean on the other, with Batu Payung, a large rock formation shaped like a face, visible further along (though it partially collapsed in recent years). Seger is the quicker option, smaller and lower, with views over Kuta Beach and Serenting Beach, and the Litus Sunset Bar sits right at the top for anyone who wants a drink with the view rather than just the grass to sit on.

THE HIKE
Getting to the top
Merese is the longer of the two walks, about 5 minutes to the first viewpoint on the lower right side, with the option to keep climbing toward the higher left-side viewpoints, up to around 20 minutes for the furthest points along the ridge. The trail is grassy and easy, suitable for most fitness levels, though it can get warm with little shade.
Seger is quicker, under 10 minutes from the road to the top, since the hill itself is smaller. That makes it the better choice if you're short on time or don't want to commit to a longer walk, though it also means it fills up and feels crowded faster than Merese once word gets around that the light is good.
GETTING THERE
Access & parking
Both sit a short scooter ride from Kuta, on well-paved roads. Merese shares its parking area with Tanjung Aan Beach, a small fee of around 10,000 IDR per scooter applies. Seger is easy to reach along the same general direction, with informal roadside parking near the base.
WHAT'S THERE
Facilities
Merese has snack vendors at the base of the hill, useful for a drink before or after the climb, but nothing at the top itself, just open grass and the view. Seger has the advantage of the Litus Sunset Bar right at the summit, a proper spot to sit with a drink rather than perching on the ground.

GOOD TO KNOW
Wear comfortable, grippy footwear, the grassy trail can get slippery, especially after rain. Watch your footing near the cliff edges, particularly in low light as the sun sets.
TIMING
When to visit
Arrive at least an hour before sunset to claim a good spot and take in the daytime view before the light changes. Both hills get busy in peak season, arriving early is the simplest way to avoid the crowding that builds in the final 20 minutes before the sun actually sets.

WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE
Merese is the better view and the more iconic hike, worth the extra walk if you've got the time. Seger is the faster, lower-effort option, especially useful on an evening when you want a quick sunset without committing to a full excursion, and the bar at the top is a genuine advantage if you'd rather sit somewhere proper than on the grass.
