One of the quieter Secret Gilis
Gili Layar sits among the cluster of secret Gilis off Sekotong, one of the least visited of the group despite real natural appeal, quiet enough that most days you'll have long stretches of the beach entirely to yourself. A small hill on the island's western side is said to resemble a ship's sail, which is where the island gets its name.

White sand and clear, calm bay water, with a house reef close enough to snorkel right off the beach, no separate boat trip required once you've landed. Conditions stay gentle most of the year given the sheltered position within the Sekotong group.

Access & parking
Boat only, departing from Tawun Harbour or Lembar, roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on the departure point and sea conditions on the day.
WHAT'S THERE
Facilities
Just one place to stay on the whole island, Layar Beach Bungalow, which keeps the island genuinely undeveloped compared to bigger neighbors like Gili Gede. Outside of that, there's little in the way of facilities, this is a bring-what-you-need kind of visit.
TIMING
When to visit
Dry season, May through October, gives the calmest crossings and the clearest water for snorkeling. Rough seas outside this window can make the boat trip uncomfortable or get cancelled altogether.

Gili Layar vs Gili Rengit
WHY CHOOSE THIS ONE
Gili Rengit sits a short boat ride further out and has genuinely healthier coral by most accounts, but nothing in the way of facilities at all. Gili Layar trades a bit of that reef quality for the one small bungalow on site, useful if you'd rather have somewhere to stay rather than a pure day trip.
