OVERVIEW

Lombok's kitesurfing coast

Pantai Kaliantan sits on the far south coast of Jerowaru sub-district, part of the same remote stretch of East Lombok as Tanjung Ringgit and Tanjung Bloam. What sets it apart from the beaches around Kuta is its sand, coarse and textured almost like grains of pepper, a quality specific to this southern coastline. It's become one of the country's more reliable kitesurfing spots, with a long, open stretch of coast and steady side-shore winds that draw a small but dedicated crowd of foreign kitesurfers rather than typical beach tourists.

The beach is also tied to Nyale Bau, a local ceremonial tradition centered on catching sea worms that surface along the coast, worth checking dates for if you'd like to see it or would rather avoid the crowd it draws.
