A rare stretch of black sand
Kerandangan sits just around the corner from Senggigi Beach, close enough to reach in minutes but a genuinely different experience once you're there. This is one of the few true black sand beaches on this stretch of coast, a long, wide shoreline backed by a strikingly symmetrical palm plantation that's become a favorite backdrop for photos.
The Kerandangan Nature Conservation Park sits just inland, a small BKSDA managed patch of tropical forest home to birds and butterflies, worth a short walk if you want to pair the beach with a bit of green space.

Soft, grayish-black sand runs the length of the beach, with the darkest patches typically found toward the southern corner. The water is clear and calm during the day, good for a swim, but waves tend to build after sunset, worth keeping in mind if you're tempted to stay in the water once the light starts to fade.

About 2 to 3 kilometres, roughly 5 to 10 minutes, from central Senggigi along Jalan Raya Senggigi, a well paved, easy drive. From Mataram, figure on around 30 to 40 minutes by car or rideshare. Parking is available and reasonably sized for the beach's popularity as a sunset spot.

GOOD TO KNOW
No lifeguard on duty. Waves have been reported to build after sunset, swimming is best kept to daylight hours. The tidal zone is long with a moderate depth increase, worth wading in gradually rather than diving straight in.
A few local warungs and one attached resort sit along the beach, but facilities stay fairly limited otherwise, bring your own shade if you're planning to stay a while. The beach has hosted local events like Senggigi's sunset jazz evenings, worth checking if anything's on during your visit.

When to visit
Late afternoon into sunset is the signature time here, the black sand and calm water make for a striking, quieter alternative to watching sunset from Senggigi itself. Daytime is better for swimming, since waves have been reported to build once the sun goes down.
