Where Lombok tourism began
Senggigi was Lombok's first developed beach destination, established back in the late 1980s when travelers first started crossing over from Bali looking for somewhere quieter. Decades later, it's still the west coast's main hub, a crescent-shaped bay backed by a proper tourism strip: hotels, restaurants, spas, an art market, and a stretch of coastline that runs roughly 10 kilometres along the main coastal road.
The signature experience here is the sunset, with Bali's Mount Agung visible as a silhouette across the strait on clear evenings, one of the more reliably spectacular sunset views on the island.

The main bay has calm, protected water suited to relaxed swimming, and it's an easy, low-effort beach compared to the more remote south coast bays. It's not particularly known for snorkeling directly off the main strip, better reef and marine life is a short trip away at Nipah or out toward the Gilis.

Senggigi sits about 50 kilometres north of Lombok International Airport and is easily reached by car, taxi, or rideshare on well-maintained roads, no scooter or 4WD required. It also functions as a departure point for the Gili Islands, Wahana Virendra runs fast boats directly out of Senggigi, while Bangsal, a little further north, is the main harbour for other operators.

Restaurants, markets & facilities
This is the most fully equipped beach on this list. Pasar Seni, the art market at the centre of the bay, sells textiles, jewelry, and handicrafts, with beachfront restaurants lining the water's edge. The main road, Jalan Raya Senggigi, is lined with cafés, restaurants, spas, minimarkets, ATMs, and nightlife venues. Just south of the main strip, Pura Batu Bolong, a Hindu sea temple perched on a rocky outcrop, is the area's most photographed landmark and a popular sunset spot, entry is free but a sarong is required, available to borrow at the gate.

GOOD TO KNOW
No lifeguard on duty, though the main bay is calm and low-risk. Beach vendors are present but generally not pushy, a polite decline is usually enough. Waste can also wash up here during rainy season as local infrastructure catches up with growth.
TIMING
When to visit
Late afternoon into sunset is the signature time to be here, aim to arrive at Pura Batu Bolong by around 5:30pm to secure a good spot, especially in peak season. July and August bring the biggest crowds; outside those months, Senggigi stays comfortably busy without feeling overwhelmed.

WHY CHOOSE THIS ONE
Nipah is quieter, more local, and better for snorkeling, but has a fraction of Senggigi's infrastructure. Senggigi is the better choice if you want restaurants, nightlife, spas, and an easy base for exploring the rest of the west coast and the Gilis, all within walking distance of where you're staying.
